The next closest in terms of multi-core performance was the Acer Nitro 5 with its AMD Ryzen 7 5800H (1,469/8,073), while the Razer Blade 15 (Ryzen 9 5900HX. That test is meant to be representative of overall system performance with an emphasis on the CPU.
The Alienware x15 earned a Geekbench 5 single-core score of 1,565 and a multi-core score of 8,114. With an Intel Core i7-11800H, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, as well as the aforementioned Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070, the Alienware x15 can handle some intense productivity work, though competing laptops using AMD processors excelled in several tests. Our monitoring with HWInfo revealed the CPU first throttled in short bursts, and then two very long ones, for the duration of the test. 1440P METRO EXODUS BACKGROUND 1080P
The Alienware led the Blade and Nitro again on Borderlands 3 (badass settings preset) at 79 fps at 1080p and 57 fps at 1440p. On Red Dead Redemption 2 (medium settings), the Alienware x15 ran the benchmark at 82 fps at 1080p and 59 fps at 1440p, falling behind both the Blade 14 and Nitro 5 on both counts, but slightly ahead of the Legion 5 Pro. On Far Cry New Dawn (ultra settings), the x15 ran at 82 fps at 1080p and 69 fps at 1440p, losing out slightly to the Razer Blade 15 and the Acer Nitro 5. This is one area where it beat the Legion 5 Pro, which ran the game lower at 1080p (84 fps). Here, the Alienware x15 ran at 103 fps at 1080p and 68 fps at 1440p, beating the Razer Blade and Acer Nitro 5 at both resolutions. Next, we ran Grand Theft Auto V (very high preset).
Lenovo's Legion 5 Pro, with its 140W RTX 3070, ran the game at 80 fps at 1080p and 56 fps at 2560 x 1600. The Acer Nitro 5 Tied the Blade at 1440p and ran at 75 fps at 1080p. The Razer Blade 14, with its own RTX 3070, was at 75 fps at 1080p and and 53 fps at 1440p. On Shadow of the Tomb Raider (highest presets) the Alienware x15 ran the benchmark at 79 fps at 1080p and 53 fps at 1440p. Once I was discovered and entered combat, performance occasionally dropped into the 60's. At the Alienware x15's native resolution of 2560 x 1440 and with the ultra settings preset, the game ran between 70 and 80 frames per second as I slipped through the Karl's Bay level of Blackreef. I immediately tried playing my latest obsession, Deathloop, on the 1440p screen.
